So I asked and you responded. You all seem interested in some of my friend's crazy stories, so here's one from one of my favorite people. She emailed me this email, which made me ask you my poll question because I was dying to share this. Enjoy!

So the lovely Tom sometimes calls me at work when he's out on audits to check in and see what i'm up to. Today at about 3:30 he called and we chatted for about 15 minutes before i let him go to finish some work. His phone call ran into my 'afternoon break' so i just took my break at my desk to chat for a couple minutes. Then, my ENTIRE DEPARTMENT got this email just now:

"Just a reminder, personal telephone calls should take place on your morning/afternoon break or at lunch time. If a personal telephone call is required during working hours, please keep it as brief as possible. With the desk areas so close together, telephone conversations are being heard by others around you. If the area is quiet at the time of your call, your conversation is being carried over to surrounding departments.

Because of the open set up to the work place, conversations both business and personal can be heard by others. Please keep your voices down when possible to respect those around you.

Now, it's totally reasonable for them to not want me on the phone when i'm working, i'm not disputing that. But whenever anyone does something wrong, they never tell you. They never talk to you or email you about it. They email everyone in the department, because they don't have the balls to tell you that you did something wrong. They don't even email you personally because they're that scared of any form of confrontation. Instead we all get a generic email as if i don't know this is because i was JUST on the phone. This is why i can't take my bosses seriously.

Not to mention, since this email showed up an hour after i got a personal phone call, it's pretty passive aggressive. Grow some balls. If you don't like what i'm doing maybe i'll stop doing it if you mention it to me. Otherwise, i'm going to delete your silly emails just like the rest of the department.


As much as I don't want my friends to have sucky jobs and/or bosses, it does help to know I'm not the only one. And I mean that in the nicest way, JM. Thanks for being my first guest blogger!!! loooooooooooooooooooove you :)
